School consolidation and fewer administrators is the answer to the public school budget crunch but they have the best lobby in OKC so its not going to happen.

We've been on 4 day weeks here a Prue all year. We haven't had any numbers back yet. If you think about it, 20% reduction in the following: running buses, salaries of aides, cafeteria food, cafeteria workers, utilities(most are shut off thursday afternoon) and I'm sure there are more things I'm not thinking of right now. Plus, the kids are WAY less burned out and I'm refreshed every monday after a three day weekend!!

Thanks Coach Ray... I've wondered how the few schools that have been trying this feel about it.
How does it affect athletics? Does it mess up studies, testing, and homework? |

As far as athletics go, I don't see much difference. I do have fridays to do any polishing that I need to do before the game, but I usually have everything in before friday. Studies and homework don't seem to be affected that much either. I teach a core class and I seem to be right on schedule as far as which chapter I am on this week. Testing has yet to be seen since this is the first year. I think testing will be the big indicator as to if we get to continue. If they show little or no change we will continue. If they drop significantly, then it is back to normal. That would lead to some serious cutbacks around here.

Gore is still struggling. The four a day weeks are doing ok. It was a hard adjustment for everyone at first, but for the most part everyone has adapted to it. I am going to add two links to this for your veiwing instead of pasting and taking up the forums space. These are what Gore is still going thru. http://www.sequoyahcountytimes.com/p...new s_bullets http://www.sequoyahcountytimes.com/p...e_news_bullets Now of that 2.5 million in the last article, about 80% of that goes to Gore schools. So now you can see what Gore is up against. They simply don't get the money that some do from the taxes.

JimPat I'm talking about the lobbyist our education system has. I don't know if you remember years ago they wanted HB 1017 passed that raised taxes on everyone and everything and that was suppose to solve the funding problem. They were asking for more money not two years later. Then it was the lottery that was the answer for all the money problems but still that wasn't enough. Next year we will again be asked pass SQ 744 which is another tax increase to fund schools without addressing the root problem. The state loses to much money in administrative cost. Just here in pittsburg county we have four schools (Tannihill, Frink, Haywood, and Krebs) that just go to eight grade and need to be closed and a lot of other schools so small that with consolidation you could eliminate enough administrators that the state wouldn't have to go to these drastic measures for funding. Here is a link for SQ 744: http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.ph...tion_744_(2010) I would encourage everyone to vote no until they start cutting administrative costs. |
