View Full Version : Toughest job in 6A?

Is there a tougher job in 6A HS basketball than Stillwater?

1) Student population is 1,400, yet you play against schools in Tulsa and OKC metro areas with over 4,300 students and many have open transfers and not-so-open transfers, if you know what I mean.

2) OSU is right down the road, so the local media doesn't really cover it and the townsfolk don't support it at similar sized towns like Ponca City and Enid. Plus, OSU owns so much of the land, that the SHS tax revenue is among the lowest per capita in the state.

3) Stillwater hurts themselves by not seemingly doing everything to win. Hiring football coaches to coach basketball at the junior high level and then they don't play to win, losing some of their top players to other area schools because of it.

Over the years I've heard top smaller school coaches and some good 5A and 6A coaches tell me they'd never apply for the Stillwater job if it opened up...it's a shame that people in Stillwater love their OSU hoops, but no one seems to care about it at the high school level.

Does anyone know of a tougher place to win in the state?
