Redmen Catch Fire in Win Over Bronchos

EDMOND, Oklahoma --- Lamont George and Pat Moore (2002 Pawnee Black Bear Graduate) scored 17 points apiece as Northeastern State defeated Central Oklahoma 81-70 at Hamilton Field House Monday evening.
The Redmen improved to 13-9 and 3-4 in Lone Star Conference play asUCO fell to 12-10 and 5-2.
Northeastern State was slow out of the gate as the Bronchos jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead three minutes into the first half. After that the Redmen seized control and never waivered.
NSU overcame the deficit with the hot shooting of George, who was 3-3 from behind the arc in the first stanza and 4-5 from the floor for 12 points as the Redmen built a nine point lead at 42-33 at halftime.
The Bronchos managed to cut the lead to four at 44-40 with 15:00 minutes to go. Northeastern State, over the next 10 minutes, went of a 23-8 run to push its lead to 21 points at 71-50 with seven minutes to play, then held off the Bronchos late to pull out the win.
NSU had four players in double figures led by George and Moore with 17 points. Cody Hopkins chipped in 14 and Sid Melvin added13 points.
The Redmen were 26-48 from the floor for 54 percent and 12-21 from behind the arc for 56 percent. Head coach Larry Gipson called the victory, "our best game overall this season against a very good basketball team."
The Bronchos were paced by Anthony Brown's 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Joe Kennerly chipped in 20 points and five caroms.
The Redmen will return to action this Saturday as Texas A&M-Commerce visits Jack Dobbins Field House. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
