ALVA -- Nine players off of the 2005 Ranger football team received Central States Football League postseason honors on Wednesday for their outstanding play on the gridiron. Coaches from the seven member institutions select a first and second team, each consisting of 15 offensive and 14 defensive players.
Northwestern's Odie Armstrong, Sedgwyn Thigpen, Terence Adair, B.J. Hodshire, Nate Hite and Kelvin Morgan were selected for the first-team.
Armstrong was selected as a first-team running back after he led the conference in rushing with 1230 yards and in scoring, averaging 12 points per game.
The 6-0, 230-pound, Vardaman, Miss. senior rushed over 100 yards in seven of the eight games he played in. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry and 153.8 yards per game on the ground.
Armstrong also caught 13 passes for 112 yards, averaging 8.6 yards per catch. Armstrong led Northwestern with 16 touchdowns.
The two-year back tied a school record with four touchdowns in a game during his last home game and rushed for an individual-season high 253 yards, just four yards shy of a school record.
Thigpen, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., ranked third on the team in receiving with 20 catches for 376 yards. He averaged 18.8 yards per catch along with four touchdowns.
Thigpen had the highest average per game with 53.7 yards. Twelve of his 20 receptions resulted in a first down or more.
Adair, a two-year starting offensive lineman for NWOSU, had 31 pancakes and 41 knockdowns this season. He was the offensive line leader and captain.
B.J. Hodshire, a sophomore linebacker from Pawnee, led the team in tackles with 64. He had 33 solo tackles along with 31 assists and was tied for the team lead in tackles for losses with 10 tackles for losses of 32.5 yards.
Hodshire had two sacks, four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and a blocked punt.
Nate Hite and Kelvin Morgan took two of the four defensive back first-team honors. Hite, a junior from Brownsville, Tex., led the Rangers in interceptions with six. Playing in all nine games, he came up with 33 tackles, had three tackles for loss and broke up six passes.
Morgan, from Plaquemine, La., was fourth on the team in tackles with 50. The sophomore had one tackle for loss, two interceptions and four pass breakups.
Second-team honors went to Kellen Taylor, Monte Dupree and T.J. Nickelberry.
Taylor, playing his senior year at Northwestern as a receiver, caught 29 passes for 245 yards. He averaged 35 yards per game and 8.4 yards each reception.
A four-year starter from Elk City, Dupree, played on the offensive line. He was a two-year starter at tackle.
Nickelberry, a sophomore defensive lineman from Amarillo, Tex., had 51 tackles and was the third leading tackler for Northwestern. He posted 28 solo and 23 assisted tackles along with 10 tackles for loss resulting in 31 lost yards.
Nickelberry turned in a sack and broke up a pass.
This season the Rangers were 4-5 overall and 4-2 in the CSFL.
