Gore High School junior Zach Bearden recently helped Team USA to a seventh place finish in the World Youth Fly Fishing Championships in the Czech Republic.
Bearden tried out and was selected for the team earlier this year during competition in Pennsylvania after narrowly missing a spot on the United States squad a year ago.
The World Championship event consisted of five three-hour sessions over a three-day span in which the anglers were assigned an area to fish. After catching a fish, it had to be taken by hand to the nearest controller, or check point, as fast as possible.
The USA Youth squad consisted of fishermen from Virginia, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania, California, Texas and Oklahoma.
Bearden placed 43rd individually among anglers from all 13 countries in the competition, snagging 24 fish in the competition.
