Kevin Farr & Michael Swisher think Chattanooga will carry the gold ball home.
Area I
It's almost impossible to pick out a clear favorite in the balanced Area I field. Would have unquestionably been Ringwood before the Red Devils' recent upset at the hands of Lomega, which is a sleeper that could get hot and ruin someone's plans. Fargo's only two defeats have come at the hands of Class A unbeaten Laverne and battle-tested Coyle should be helped greatly by a brutally tough regular season schedule.
Area II
Area II has two clear favorites in last year's state finalists (Fort Cobb and Chattanooga). This year it's Chattanooga that has the experience advantage and will be one of the of the favorites to claim the gold ball, but never discount the Mustangs and high-scoring standout Garrett Steinmetz. Look out for Sterling, which has already shown it can play with anybody, knocking off Fort Cobb and taking Chattanooga to the limit in the span of one week's time early in the season.
Area III
With three teams currently ranked in the top 8 in the state, Area III definitely looks like one of the toughest areas at the top. Third-ranked Boynton has an impressive run of reaching state 18 of the past 20 years but it won't be easy. Eighth-ranked Earlsboro has arguably the most electrifying player in the area in sensational junior guard Jo Jon Smith. Defensive-minded Glencoe could cause either problems in the other area, not to mention a talented Midway squad that has flown under the radar all season.
Area IV
Undefeated Stringtown is the heavy favorite in Area IV to get back to the state tournament after falling just short last year. The Tigers have already turned back most of the area challengers. It could be a rugged battle with Red Oak and Pittsburg leading the way for a potential area finals matchup with Stringtown.
