Does anyone have any word on how the weight meet at Anadarko went?
It was this past week Feb 2nd Jr. High and Feb 3rd High School.

Our school is generally in attendance, but we are going to the meet in Newcastle instead.

Thank in advance for any information.

If I get a chance tomorrow, I will give Anadarko a call and see if they will fax me the results. I will try. I checked around "web" for some articles to only find some other things that side tracked me. If you can take the results to the other meet or have someone fax them to me at (918) 762-3740, I will post them on here.

I missed the squat of the meet, the results they had posted where not very informative as they had all the 7th thru 9th graders mixed until the tally of the scores, they even had to ask some of the lifters what grade they where in. There are a couple of heavy weight boys from Lindsey that are going to be somthing to watch in the future. One squatted 485 lbs. deadlifted 440 lbs. he was weak in the bench with a lift of 230, that he really struggled with. Last name was Ramming, weight 270. The other lifter from Lindsey is Barnes weighing 260, he was following right behind him, with a squat of 440, another weak bench at 190, and a deadlift of 390lbs. The third place lifter is Taylor from Carnegie weighing 235, with a squat of 345, a bench of 240, and a dead lift of 350. These are just the heavy weight lifters in the 9th grade division. Newcastle also has a High School meet tomorrow Feb. 10th. I will not be attending this one I can only cut so many classes myself, and I have a stock show next week as well. The Ramming kid from Lindsey, said he placed 3rd in Anadarko @ the Jr. High meet in the 9th grade division.

The schools attending this meet were only class A and 2A .....Lindsey, Newcastle, Bridge Creek, Rush Springs, Apache, Comanache, Velma Alma, Carnegie, Maysville, Blanchard, and Purcell.

On another note, many coaches there were discussing doing away with the deadlift, they feel that to many young men are injured in doing this lift, they blow out their knees and destroy their backs. Maybe someone needs to do some brain storming to find a different lift with a safer technic, that could possible reduce the amount of lifelong injuries. Anyone with back problems will tell you, once you injure you back you never fully recover. Sorry I am not much more help, but I hope Newcastle continues with the meets, and things become more organized with experience. Getting any kind of results at this meet would have been a major undertaking. I really enjoy the Jr. High meets it lets you see the up and coming athletes.

The deadlift needs to stay, these young men just need correct coaching with their form & style, i never injured my back or knees deadlifting in over 100 pwr-lfting meets. The only two injuries i ever had both came during the squat, one knee injury, and one lower back sprain. I would be glad to help you pick up some good liteture or videos on correct lifting tecniques!
E-mail me if you like.

I do hate to see these guy come up to the squat and dead lift with their knees taped so tight they can hardly walk or knee brace supports on, especially if there has not been previous injuries. I'm not sure I agree with the use of them. An elastic wrap is one thing but the other methods I question...... If you have had previous injuries (torn acl)it is one issue, but with out the injury I think it looks like an aid.

I have never been to a high school power lift. I would like to attend as a spectator. I think it is something our kids could benefit from participation.

On the dead lift, do they still use a straight bar. Or, are they using the "diamond" ring?

I don't know if I'm even calling the bar the correct name. But, this bar positions the weight perpendicular to the sides of the lifter (at right angles).

This allows the lifter use more of his lower torso, quads and hips in making the lift.

Just wondering. . .I'm interested.

Do they use Smith Machines for any squats? Or, is that not allowed?

I've never used a machine squat at a meet. I dont think they're allowed. In deadlift they use a straight bar. I don't think u should be able to use wraps. I've never used them and I see them as aids but i dont think I'll be able to do much in the way of powerlifting this year. What do u think OKLAHOMAMOSES?

I am sure that a squat machine or diamond d bar could be used if the coaches or meet promoters were overely concerned about injuries due to (POOR LIFTING TECHNIQUE) Proper form & heavy weights are what build muscle! As far as knee wraps (SUPER WRAPS) are concerned i never wrapped my knees unless i was duing sets of five with 550 & up. I did not wrap tight (CROSS HATCH WRAP) unless my reps that day were in the 650 to 750 range. Overall they can help prevent injury if used correctly.

Yes, i agree, in squat, wraps help you alot. I used them for my first time about two weeks ago, and I fell in love with them, besides that i couldn't feel my legs for a whole day.

Dorman what did you place at the state meet? I was there i was looking and i saw you were in like 14-17 maybe? But that was just after squat..

I did horrible.. Almost our whole team got sick, because we decided to jump in the freezing cold pool, and then in the hot tub a couple of times, and i hurt my wrist, like i dont know what was wrong with it but it hurt like crazy...

My squat was only 280, and i struggled... on my second attempt (280) i didnt get it, and that was the first squat i have never pushed up.. I did 300 at Liberals meet, but i just didnt get parallel, and missed it by half an inch the judge said, and i got 290 easy at regionals.. after that i was mad, and didnt really care anymore..But In the warm up in bench I did 175, and then i did 180, and got them both pretty easy, and then when it came to the real deal i only got 170, i felt all weak, i was so mad... gah. then i thought my first attempt on deadlift was 295, but it was 285, and i got that easy, then i bumped to 315, and i got it up and every thing but my fingers were slipping and i was holding it all finger, so i just put it down... then did 320, a whole different form, and failed horribly.. i dead lift with my legs inside, but the kids doing heavy weight do it with their legs outside.. so i took advice from them, and tried it..lol

Actually i didnt... Do you know what judge it was..? Some of them were tough... we had our two rival school judges, but they were still pretty good torwards us. Did you see that black guy try for 620 or whatever, in the 220 weight class, he was pushing people around ripping his ipod out of his ears, and all kinds of stuff... he was yelling... lol, he didnt get it though..
