I'm trying to figure out the best way to bring the "tackiness" back out on a football. Used Nike this past season and thinking about going back to GST ball, not even worrying about the Reabok thing right now. I've always thought the Wilson balls were the better throwing footballs but used to be harder to catch. Saw a kid throwing the GST ball the other day and it felt like a composite leather and very tacky. I know they make a brush for them but never had one. Give me some ideas or secrets??

We have always used the Wilson GST everywhere I have been. And it never fails the second I give the QB one he rolls it in the dirt, scuffs it on the concrete, takes the wire brush to it.Go Figure.LOL! They definetly like the worn ball!

We Used To Use The Cramer Ball Wax But It Would Sometimes Make The Ball Slick, We Went To The Wilson Gst Ball This Year And Used The Sponge And Brush They Recommended And Liked The Outcome. It Gives The Ball A Natural Feel Without Adding Anything To It. You Can Also Use A Light Spray Of Tape Adhesive Spray Sometimes.

I talked to a Reebok rep and he said after all the complaints about the Basketball being slick that they were gonna try to make the FB better. They are also coming out with some ointment/powder whatever to make it less slick.

Hey guys, I appreciate the input and ideas. We used the Nike ball this past season and liked it pretty well. I also used the old ball wax and it would work well for a while and then get a little slick, especially when it got colder. We were throwing Sunday in Tulsa a week ago and the QB from Oologah had the GST and it looked brand new out of the box. On an errant throw I picked it up and threw it back in and it felt like a composite ball, very tacky! I hadn't used a new one for a few years and I thought they came out with a composite version. I looked at the ball and it said genuine leather. I'm not sure what he did to it, but it was crazy tacky! I didn't get a chance to talk to him before he left and he wasn't there this past Sunday. I picked one up at Midwest Friday thinking I'd find one like it, but no luck. I talked to rep and he said Tulsa uses a hot damp towel and they will rub it up real good and then go back over with a dry towel. Worked a little bit but not much, also tried a brush, but nothing like the one I saw week before last. If anyone else knows any secrets it would be much appreciated. It definitely helps the receivers out more than the QB's.

we use the cramer stuff too. I have been real happy with it. We also got that brush and leather soap stuff too.
I'm a fan of the GST as well, but I like it better after it's about 2 wks old. But it's whatever the QB wants imo, i'll get him whatever he wants. Next year we are probably going to go ahead and use the Reebok. I heard it was going to be mandatory in the playoffs, but not sure. We got a sample and it is almost the same ball as the GST. Same pattern

Every Reebok ball I've picked up has felt very slick. Tough to beat the composite laces and stripes on the GST. I'm not sure we can get to the playoffs using the Reebok ball, so we will probably go to the GST and have a couple of Reebok balls to use towards the end of the season tp prepare for the playoffs. Good luck guys and thanks for the info.

You will not have to use the Reebok ball in the playoffs. I got this straight from the OSSAA. You will be allowed to use your footballs.

I wish I had a "cha-ching" sound I could play...
That one had to hurt a little! :)

Sweet! No word on the Seminole thing, yet. No time to visit with our FB HC.

I actually have a Wilson GST right beside me, it is a little bit worn, but they are really tacky, I like them alot. You can buy these little wipes, and you wipe your gloves and the ball, and it is like glue almost. We play with real leather balls, because the composite leather balls feel to light, or something. You can throw a much better spiral with the actual leather ones. Also, the Nike footballs are a little bit more wider than Wilson footballs, that is the reason I don't like them, but I would definitely recommend the Wilson footballs.

Thanks for the input Dorman. Tell me more about the little wipes. I've heard that a couple of times now but not sure what they are talking about. Are they made by Wilson or is it something you can get at Walmart?

these are the little wipes, the only thing that is bad about them is that they cost a little bit.

I use this for my gloves, and it works very well.. Im not sure if you can spray it on the football or not, but your gloves get really tacky.
