It was so exciting to watch Keiton reach the 3000 mark on Sat. A once in a lifetime chance for myself and I am sure many others. What amazes me is how it has somewhat gone unnoticed! I picked up a Tulsa World, Oklahoman, and Stillwater Newspress this morning. Not only was there no mention of Keiton's great accomplishment that only 4 others have ever done, but 2 of them didn't even mention the fact that the Black Bears and Lady Bears walked away with both Championships this weekend. Then I get on the forums and there hasn't been anything said on here either. Last I knew there were even a couple of Pawnee guys heading this place up. Maybe they're not here anymore or something. I am truely amazed at the response, or lack thereof, of this huge milestone in Oklahoma High School Basketball. Never the less, congratulations to Keiton and what a tremendous year he is having.
*Jealousy is truly an evil thing.

Clarke is going to break Ty Harman's record 1st. Then Page will break it. Then Rotnei will hold it for a lil bit. Then Page will Break it!!

Peck, don't be throwing darts. Page's accomplishments are well recognized here @ OKSC. But, he couldn’t achieve that record without 4 other players on that team.
Just keeping that in perspective. We're thrilled to have one of the best basketball players in Oklahoma on the Black Bear squad. We're also thrilled Keiton's play has made others around him play to there best ability. It's all good.
If he breaks the all time scoring record and we miss the state championship, what's it all for? I believe every player on that squad would rather have a state championship, first. If he breaks the record while winning it - icing on the cake.

The Lady Bears played very good basketball and beat a solid Alva squad. We're thrilled of their accomplishments. However, they need to remain hungry and focused on playing good basketball. I believe they're having fun and eager to improve with each game.
I'm sure the coach(s) are pleased with a victory but, points out areas they need to improve as they progress.
The experience was good for the Lady Bears. Pressure games on a large venue will be key for the team. They must be able to focus and play solid for four quarters. I believe they're up to the challenge.

Elk-This has been my first post in nearly 2 months for this very reason. I am not a high school kid, and don't appreciate being talked to like one. You act like I only follow Page around and know nothing of the other players. I have been to almost every single JV game this season. And there are 27 other players on the team last time I checked, not 4. I didn't say anything about Page breaking "the record." Just the lack of recognition for the 3000 mark that's all. I thought this was a place that folks can come and express their opinions and feelings. I was actually trying to put it in a nice way of saying "What the heck-when Rotnei did it everyone (meaning the media, mostly) went CRAZY!" That's all. You know, media coverage for Keiton or whoever it may be is always good for Pawnee. Notice I said the papers didn't even mention the fact that the TEAM won the tourney. Anyway, I think I got the answer to my question. You won't have to worry about me asking anymore.

Peck, I love ya!
Page's accomplishments are fantastic. We (all of Pawnee) are proud. However, I believe we are focused on winning a State Title, rather than breaking a scoring record.
If I were a betting man, I bet David & Keiton feel the same way.
You complements are always welcome here on OKSC. Please post & post often :)

I think there is a distinct difference in Rotnei and Keiton, and I think that difference is the reason in the different reactions.
I will tell you that Rotnei did not get a whole lot of press and reaction by the OKC area media when he broke the 3K mark, but that Keiton is still being talked about (especially with OSU struggles as of late). As a matter of fact, they were talking about Keiton on the Sports Animal (radio) yesterday afternoon. Mark Rogers talks highly about him and was at the game on Saturday and talked about what a pleasure he (KP) was.
Rotnei is considered a ball hog. Keiton is (this year) a balanced team player. They both put up a huge number of shots, but the offenses are completely different. That's why I think the focus on 3K and the amount of coverage was different. Rotnei was the first to do it in a few years and the whole offense is predicated on running picks for Rotnei to shoot. Keiton did it 2nd and runs an offense that is centered around KP, but is more of a "whoever gets a good shot can shoot" outlook.
So, I think those are the main reasons why there wasn't just a whole lot of hoopla right off the bat. But CoachesAid did end up running and article. I think the Daily Ok ran one. And he's getting more talk and extended talk from the major media here around OKC. But, Elk is right... the team "outlook" on things may be the bigger reason for the media response. When all the focus is put on one player and not the team, that focus draws a different kind of coverage.

I did not want the Verdigris/Pawnee game in the TOC to happen because of this. That game was so hyped because of individuals in a team game and both deserve the recognition they get. I know that the coaching staff at Pawnee could have cared less if Keiton outscored Rotnei in that game, so long as we were ahead on the scoreboard at the end of the game. Thankfully, Alex Hanson stepped up and hit some huge 3's to seal the win. Some people were disappointed that Keiton & Rotnei didn't go after each other as much, but that isn't what team basketball is about. Maybe after the season, someone could organize a game of 1-on-1??? HaHa. How many tickets would be sold for that?
