Boys, I so upset in the performance I witnessed last night on National Television! Unthinkable, this is becoming the "norm" for OU football?!?!
I don't want to hear excuses about injuries & discipline problems. When you compare athletes to athletes, OU is way above the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Our kids looked totally flat from the start! West Virginia looked like they had "Red Bull" running through their veins! We stunk at every position. It's so hard for me to imagine that OU could be so unprepared for a bowl game.
West Virginia didn't do anything different from what they've done all year. This is so embarrassing! A 3-3 stack defense stops you on a 4th & 1? You've got to be kidding me. . . .
I'm so upset & embarrassed. The OU offensive line was TERRIBLE! Somebody please tell me why Chase Beeler quit playing football. He was an outstanding lineman for Jenks. Smart, unreal strength, good foot speed - and he quit OU?!?
Something is way out of line - PLEASE Weight In!!

Im with you Elk. Im sick of seeing OU choke in big games. The O-Line out weighed West Va be almost 40 pounds a man and realy struggled to run the ball. Loadholt got beat time and again with a simple speed rush. The defenses looked pathetic. Stoops is a great recruiter but he is simply not that good of an X's and O's type of coach. He cant gameplan for teams outside the Big IX.

Supper! You've got to tell me there is no one in OU's secondary that can't catch him?
Yeah, it was an impressive run. And, I actually felt good for that kid after the game. He was very humble in the interview and I smiled watching him.
BUT, to let that monster roll 57 yards without a chase - sorry, no heart from OU's secondary. Unacceptable. . .

Wow, the sun came up today and the world goes on. Losing a football game isn't the end of the world. We had a bad night and that's it. What I am tired of is getting beat on National TV. I guess we showed the world that we need WR and DB's. Come on Julio Jones, commit to the Sooners.

WVU did to OU what OU used to do to others in the wishbone days.:(

I could feel that the fiesta bowl was going to be in jeopardy when news came out that Granger was caught shoplifting. Too much goofing off and not enough concentration on the task at hand. Stoops and Co. need to do a better job keeping the team focused on the game. I know there is a lot of pressure on these teams to perform and a little down time is required, but antics like that can bring down team moral and effect the mentality of the players. They went down there to play a game, not for a vacation. Celebrate after you heist up that trophy. So...Maybe a little discipline would help.

I GOT SOMETHING TO SAY THE SOONERS CAN NOT WIN BOWL GAMES THEY LOST TO BOISE STATE LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR THEY LOST TO WEST VIRGINA BOTH IN THE FIESTA BOWL. WAIT I TAKE THAT BACK BOB STOOPS CAN WIN IN THE SMALL BOWLS BUT CHOKES IN THE BCS BOWLS. AND OU IS CURRECTLY 0-2 IN BOWL GAMES. YEAH AND OSU IS 2-0 IN BOWL GAMES MIKE GUNDY WINS. THE SOONERS HAVE BRAGGING RIGHTS IN THE BEDLAM BUT THE COWBOYS HAVE BRAGGING RIGHTS AT THE END OF THE SEASON. BECAUSE OSU WINS BOWLS AND OU DOESN'T. I DON'T CARE IF YOU SAY WELL OSU FACED INDIANA THAT DON'T MATTER A WINS A WIN. SO STOP HATING ON OSU BECAUSE WE WIN AND OU LOSES. AND I GOT TO SAY Georgia BEAT HAWAII AND THERE FROM THE WAC. GEORGIA PROVED THAT HIGH POWERED FOOTBALL PROGRAMS SHOULDN'T LOSE TO WAC TEAMS NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY ARE.
OU OVERLOOKS TEAMS THEY OVERLOOKED BOISE STATE AND GOT THERE BUTTS KICKED THEN THEY OVERLOOKED WEST VIRGINA AND GOT THERE BUTTS HANDED TO THEM THEY SHOULD FIRE BOB STOOPS THATS WHAT I WOULD DO

First of all. Ou had 3 defensive starters out and malcolm kelly didnt play.. but good call on the georgia beating hawaii. plain out ace whippin. Good job sec. but if osu played wv or boise state they might have got beat by 40+!! Osu is not on the level as ou.. as it showed in their game.. Dont fire stoops but hire Mike Stoops back. they win the bowls if mike comes back

Enough already! Everyone just needs to sit back and take a deep breath.
Here's some common sense from another board.
Sooner fans, the 48-28 beatdown in the Fiesta Bowl was a painful thing to watch. A game where a lot went wrong for the Sooners and everything went right for the Mountaineers, it wasn't the Sooners' finest hour in a bowl game and definitely not Bob Stoops' finest hour as a coach. His defense had no answers for Pat White or Noel Devine, and his hero-or-zero gambles (going for it on fourth down, the onside kick, etc) all blew up in his face. All in all, a painful three hours for this Sooner fan. With all that said, the ongoing temper tantrum from a certain portion of the Sooner fan base has become embarrassing.
Memo to irate Sooner fans, and to everyone else throwing a hissy fit: Nobody is going to fire Bob Stoops. Nobody. No one is going to fire a coach who just won eleven games and the conference championship, who has won five conference titles in eight seasons, who has owned Texas and Nebraska during his tenure, and who turned a program that was in shambles a decade ago into a BCS championship-winning program that is the envy of Division I. No one is firing a coach who has done all that with quarterbacks who haven't gone on to play a single down in the NFL. No one is firing a coach that at least 110 other schools would love to have.
Too many sports fans have very short memories. They forget how the 2006 season started with the Rhett Bomar no-show job scandal (thank you, overzealous boosters!!!) and his immediate dismissal from the team, the reins being turned over to a QB who was a better wide receiver, how that team battled through being beaten in a game by bad Pac-10 officiating, and ended up winning the Big 12 in spite of all the adversity. They forget how much of an unknown quality the 2007 team was at the beginning of the season, with a freshman quarterback and a lot of youth at key positions. They forget that sometimes you need to give credit to the other team. They forget that motivation and emotion really do count for a lot in football, and that two years in a row OU has met teams in the Fiesta Bowl with things to prove and chips on their shoulders the size of Idaho. The scrappy teams from Boise and Morgantown flat-out wanted it a lot more than the spoiled blue-chippers on the Sooner roster. Perhaps to the five-star talent that Stoops brings in every year the Fiesta Bowl is just another game, but watching big Owen Schmitt in tears in the post-game interview makes it pretty clear that to the Mountaineers (and to the Broncos the year before) it meant absolutely everything.
Hunger, something the 2000 Sooners had in BLEEP s, has been the missing ingredient in the recent Sooner teams. How to instill that in a bunch of blue-chip recruits who all think they have bright futures in the NFL is going to be the big challenge for the OU coaching staff. A bunch of blowhards who've never had to run anything but their mouths ripping Stoops a new one on talk radio or message boards certainly isn't going to get that done. You want to throw a hissy fit about paying $3 million to a coach who has lost BCS bowl games? Iowa would love to have him; after all, they are paying $2.7 million to a guy who can't even beat Iowa State, or Western Michigan for that matter. Wanna run Bob Stoops out of Norman? I'm sure the Texas Longhorn boosters would be glad to pay his buyout.

Now that everyone has calmed down, with a little insight, things aren't quite as bad as it seems.
Bear Bryant had a stretch where he went 0-7-1 in bowl games
Schembechler's bowl slump was worse: 0-7 from 1969 through 1978.
Tom Osborne 0-7 In seven straight seasons, 1987 through 1993,
Georgia legend Vince Dooley lost four straight bowls, from 1974-78.
Jackie Sherrill lost four straight at Mississippi State
Doug Dickey four straight at Florida
Charley McClendon lost four straight at LSU.
West Virginia's Don Nehlen had an eight-bowl losing streak
Fred Akers lost four straight bowls at Texas
Bill McCartney lost his first four bowls with Colorado
Texas A&M's R.C. Slocum went 1-7 in bowls from 1991-00
Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer has lost four straight BCS games

I don’t know, DusterDad. I’m still pretty upset at the performance of the Sooners.
The preparation for that game was terrible. West Virginia didn’t present anything different that they had ran all year. Still, our DE pinched & crashed the 6 & 7 gaps all night. That opened up the flats for White to have a field day. What the hell was Venables thinking. . . .
Another thing, the Mountaineers ran a 3-3 stack on defense. With the talent running on the field in Norman, you line up in a I formation and make 4-7 yards on every carry. Screw that spread on a 3-3 stack! Make West Virginia change their defensive game plan to stop our offensive attack.
Running the football with Patrick & Co. would have been the best “base” offensive game plan for West Virginia. Bradford could have audible a play action pass when corners & safeties started to cheat to the strong side. Bam, hit the TE for a gain of 15, or better.
OU was so unprepared for that game, it was embarrassing. And it showed! You can’t tell me that we (OU) don’t have the athletes to contain Pat White – that’s just not the case. We were so confused on defensive keys that you have Lofton & Reynolds keying on White for outside containment – mistake!!
Yeah, OU won the Big 12 championship & played solid football all season. However, these BCS bowl losses diminish the creditability of the Big 12 – especially OU!
There is no way in the world OU didn’t have the best athletes on the field that night. Remember, this was West Virginia – not USC! We were simply out coached & didn’t have any type of backup plan for the West Virginia. It’s time for some serious shake downs in Norman. Starting with Venables!!

You talk about Venables, yet 80% of your post was about our offense. :spin: Bottom line is, we were beat up with many starters sitting the bench (7) and our Freshman QB was obviously nervous and couldn't pick up on what the audible should be. Patrick was overated as it showed in his horrible first 9 games. Without Murray, we only have a pound 'em kind of run offense, of which WV just stacked the line with the secondary coming in for support. The 7 STARTERS (of whom were a major portion and the backbone of this team) that couldn't play became a huge distraction that our players didn't get over. As well, West Virginia had things to prove and was full of emotion. They just wanted it more. End of story. I'm ready to shrug it off and look for the positives like OU's incredible recruiting story line.

Alright, raise your hand if you're starting to get nervious. . . . Reading back through this post, boys; we've gotta remember to not repeat the sins of our past!
Remember last year. We thought we should have been in the championship and then get embarrassed by WV. You know Missouri would love to beat our butts in KC!
Everyone thinks we've cheated our way into this BCS mess! I have family in Texas who won't return my calls. I think I'm going to get cow-piles in a box for Christmas :o !! How fun is that? Christmas morning, opening a box of dodo! :poo:
Guys, I'm NERVIOUS!! Box is out. . .Bradford's hand. . . .Someone's gonna steal an iPod in KC . . . .what next . . . ??

You forgot Reynolds! Oklahoma is gonna make Missouri not wanna play football for a long long time! Oklahoma should bet Missouri by 50+! But lets not forget 03 Kansas State beat Oklahoma 38-3 in the title game but who knows what is gonna happen!

I'm nervous about this game, too. OU has had to get up sky high for big games with Texas Tech and OSU two weeks in a row. It's hard to be up sky high for three straight weeks, especially when you didn't even know this time last week if you were going to be playing in this game or not. Mizzou's got nothin' to lose and they'll have the crowd behind them at Arrowhead. Look out Sooners, it could be an ambush.

I know exactly what you mean! Any 21 year old Sooner already thinks he's bullet proof. They've had some great games, but all of this seams eerily too familiar with OU sitting on top, then someone knocks us back into reality.
Missouri will be gunning to embarrass OU on a national stage. Plus, that cocky QB is probably _issed about Bradford getting the Heisman nod. He was the favorite early in the season. He would love to scorch OU's secondary and thumb his nose at the voters.
Boys, I'm nervous!

I'm not so nervous anymore :) . Bradford may win the Heisman, but Tebow is a lock for an Academy Award. He played great in the second half, but I beginning to think he shows-out too much.

I'm more nervous about the bowl game. Especially if it's the NC.Feeling better. We're in a good position: underdog=lower expectation/pressure. (UF current betting favorite)
and motivated=being "dissed" is firing up OU. (i.e. you don't deserve to be here.)

Yea! no embarassment. We didn't win but we played respectably. Top 5 in final polls. I feel pretty good. Next year looks hopeful too.

True Clean Green but........ Aaaarrgghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! There I finally feel a little better. 1 out of 4, come on 1 out of 4. I can finally discuss the loss without feeling hollow and totally downtroden. Well I must give props to mister Percy Harvin. He is a stud. And of course St. Tebow. (Oklahoma has always had problems with a running quarterback ever since Stoops left for Arizona). But the guy is a haus! Anyway, I should look at the bright side. ESPN just named OU as the #1 program of all time. And I shouldn't get upset about the 1 in 4 wins thing. 6 conference championships and playing in 4 national championships in 10 years is pretty darn AWESOME! I just wanted number 8 for this great state. Who knows... with the fellas coming back next year (and a line gelling over spring) maybe we can turn in #5 and #8!
