America's #1 Threat

I realize that this is a mute point, but I was looking at the BCS and wishing we had a playoff. Here is how it would shape up to be:
(1) Ohio St. vs. (8) Boston Coll.
(2) LSU vs. (7)West Virginia
(3) Oregon vs. (6) Missouri
(4) Kansas vs. (5) Oklahoma
The other thing I noticed is that the SEC gets all the credit as the toughest conference, and they certainly are from top to bottom, but you can't sneeze at The Big 12 for having 3 teams in the top 8 vs. The SEC's 1.

Dude, you've got to be a rocket scientist to be analyzing the BCS. Only MMGord77 & PawneeSports are the BCS gurus round here. . .
Well, then again . . . we've gotta weatherman, out in Amarillo, GA Attack!! that's pretty smart. He gets bored in the winter with no tornados to chase around. . . .

I still don't see how you think your conference is better because they're not beating each other as much...It's common sense really. Tougher teams means more losses and lower rankings for the conference.

i have to agree with cbrdrummer... the sec is the better conference. no question

OK... I ran some numbers and I still can't figure out how the SEC is that much better. Again, I will state, I think the SEC is a little better top to bottom, than the Big 12. But here are some numbers I ran:
Non-Conference Record (to date):
SEC 36 - 5
BIG 12 36 - 11
SEC Games left: Georgia vs. Georgia Tech, Florida vs. Flor. Atlant., Florida vs. Florida St., South Car. vs. Clemson, Vandy vs. Wake Forrest, LSU vs. La. Tech, and Alabama vs. La. Monroe.
Probably finish: 5 - 2
Big 12 Games Left: K-St. vs. Fresno St.
Probably finish: 1 - 0
Probable OVERALL Non-Conference:
SEC - 41 - 7 (win %= 85.4)
BIG 12 - 37 - 11 (win %= 77)
Not just a whole lot different. SEC a little better, but not much.
If you take out the bottom 1/4 of each league (SEC: Ark., Miss. St., Miss. Big 12: Nebraska, Iowa St., Baylor) for conference record:
SEC overall: 31 - 23
BIG 12: 32 - 18
To me, that looks like the big boys in each league beat up on the bottom guys. SEC top teams have already played each other. BIG 12 top teams will play each other in next few weeks, so that total will even out even more.
So, try to explain to me again how the SEC is so much better than Big 12!?!?
We'll set it up this way:
LSU vs. Kansas
Georgia vs. OU
Auburn vs. Missouri
Alabama vs. Texas
Tennessee vs. OSU
Florida vs. K-State/Texas Tech
South Carolina vs. K-State/Texas Tech
Arkansas vs. Colorado/A&M
Kentucky vs. Colorado/A&M
Miss. St. vs. Nebraska
Vandy vs. Iowa State
Mississippi vs. Baylor
This is how they match-up, by conference standings... Non-biased (or as little as possible) look, would you tell me that the SEC would finish better than 7 - 5 or maybe 8 - 4 in this little tourney?
See, all of this adds up to our leagues being pretty similar this year. I think every decent league beats up on itself throughout the year. I would say the Pac-10 beats up on itself a little less than SEC or Big 12... but, if you are top league, you beat up on yourself. Also, I will be the first to agree that the Big 12 is down compared to the last few years, but I will also tell you that so is the SEC. I think last years Florida team blows through this year's SEC schedule. Also tell you that OU team of 2 or 3 years ago blows through this year's Big 12 schedule.
Just stating my case again... please feel free to rebut.

Ohhh, you stole my thunder. ;) Add Texas to that list, I see the Big 12's top 4, bumping 3 of the SEC's upper echilon. As far as history goes, Nebbish would be vying for yet another one of them, in just a few short years.

First of all, thank you for actually giving some statistics on the matter unlike everyone else that likes to argue because they're just homers and have no proof of what they're saying. Second, thank you for giving your honest opinion and saying that the SEC is better. I'd like to point out that I never said the BigXII is weak, there are only a couple conferences that are and they're not one of them. I'm not a hater. I'd also like to take this moment to tell you that Texas is my #2 team....sorry, I was born in Dallas, lived there for 12 years, and they grew on me...so you can be sure that I'm not completely attached to one conference. Now, I'll break down your post a little:
Finishing 5-2 is not bad, but one loss is more likely. Give Vanderbilt credit, they knocked of Woodson(who a couple on here thought was better than Tebow, ha) and company. Don't let the thumping they got from UF last week fool you...the defense came to play for once. Georgia is doing well this season, and I don't believe they'd lose to to G-Tech...but I would certainly give Clemson an edge over South Carolina. The other games are (should be) gimme's.
Even giving the SEC your two losses, 47-11 is darn good...and I gotta say 8 percentage points is significantly more in this particular area.
Take out Mississippi State? They beat Kentucky and Auburn but lost to Tennessee and South Carolina. The other two are definitely at the bottom THIS YEAR. I agree with taking out those three from the BigXII.
So, on to your matchups...
Based ONLY on how they've performed THIS YEAR:
LSU vs. Kansas(fairly even)
Georgia vs. OU(even)
Auburn vs. Missouri(close but I'd give the edge to Missouri)
Alabama vs. Texas(also close, I'd pick Bama..sadly)
Tennessee vs. OSU(even in a bad year, I'd still pick UT)
Florida vs. K-State/Texas Tech(Both are Gator bait...T-Tech more so)
South Carolina vs. K-State/Texas Tech(K-State-W...Tech-don't think so)
Arkansas vs. Colorado/A&M(Arkansas...easy)
Kentucky vs. Colorado/A&M(Kentucky...easier)
Miss. St. vs. Nebraska(Mississipi State...they're better than you think)
Vandy vs. Iowa State(Vandy...but a good game)
Mississippi vs. Baylor(Ole Miss...Baylor is horrible this year)
I'm sure you feel differently, and I don't blame you. It's all opinion, I can't change your's and you can't change mine...we've got it in our heads and can't be swayed. We may concede a little, but the opinion while stay.
I think last year's Gators would have a bit easier schedule also, but LSU is much tougher this year than last year also...as is Georgia. The Pac-10 is good because ESPN says so. It surprises me sometimes how much Pac 10 and Big Televen butt these so-called "analysts" can kiss.
Again, thanks for a REAL debate...it's much more interresting than others I've had.

Boys, I can make some of the best chili in the world. It will make you stand up and slap your grannie!
Also, I like to fire up a smoker in the fall and put some venison, chicken breast (with the skin), baby-back pork ribs. Get some soaked mesquite or pecan wood for the coals. Fill the water pan full and cover for about 6-7 hours.
I have a southwest dry rub that I use on all the meat. Just cover all the meat with the rub and put the venison close to the water. Next the ribs, then the chicken on top (three layer racks). Those jucies drip down on the other meats - WORD!!
After smelling that aroma for 5 hours, it will make a NY vegetarian howl at the moon and salivate like 6 month old cutting teeth!! Couple that with some cold potato salad, cole slaw & corn on the cob (buttered & roasted in the husk - ON THE GRILL!!). BOYS!! I starting to get hungry just typing this!!!
Pack your plate and set down in front of the TV for college football - Can I get a WHOA from my OKSC brothers out there!!!

WHOA!
How awesome would it be if we had one big OKSC cookout at someone's house?

Man... I would gladly host one. Got a nice sand volleyball court, about 2 acres, nice big shade trees, not a very big house, but two bathrooms and a 57" HD DLP tv.
Problem is, we're all a ways away from each other, but I would definitely host if we ever decided to do that. If I wouldn't host, I'd be willing to bring up the meat or whatever.
Maybe something to think about for the spring time. Maybe we could get our coaching friends to join us and have some impromtu coaching sessions... Falcons, Coach, StateChampQB, others...

Gotta work on that - it would be cool. Our website could use some intuitive thinking & "roids"! FR_Turbo has some good ideas but, we have to get involvement. Some key individuals could take this site to the next level.
Not just a magazine, but a video pod cast site for OK High School sports. Like everything, it takes money. But we need ideas on how to raise the right type of sponsorship.
Could be fun, somewhat profitable, and give high school athletes & coaches some really good press.

By the way, I'm glad that an SEC homer and a Big 12 homer can agree on one thing...
We don't like PAC 10!
Right now, out of 10 teams, they have 4 bowl eligible and 2 more with 5 wins. That's compared to 6 bowl eligible and 3 with 5 wins for Big 12. And, 9 bowl eligible and 2 with 5 wins for SEC.
Pac10 has 4 teams with no chance at bowl eligibility, Big 12 has Iowa St. and Baylor, and SEC has Mississippi.
