Union Tops Bartlesville On Buzzer Beater
February 18, 2006
Scott Henderson's 3-pointer as time expired completed a furious second half comeback as Union defeated Bartlesville 52-51 Friday night at the Frontier Conference Shootout at Union's UMAC.
Henderson finished with just seven points, but none bigger than the final three that gave the Redskins their eighth straight victory.
Union fell behind 25-14 at halftime and never led until Henderson's shot went through the bottom of the net. The Bruins led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter before the Redskins outscored them 29-to-14 the rest of the way.
Dominique Franks led Union with 14 points while Derreck Lewis, who was nominated for the Elite 8 this week, was held to just nine points. Bartlesville's Noah Hartsock led all scorers with 32 points.
The next game for both teams will come next week in the Class 6A regionals. Bartlesville will play Tahlequah and Union will play Sand Springs at the UMAC Friday with Bartlesville playing at 6:30 and Union following at 8:00.
FOOTNOTE: PawneeSports attended the game at the UMAC despite the mushy weather (it is probably one of the best areas in the state). I had a professor (he was/is a school board memeber) at OSU who told the students that the electric bill runs about $1 million a year. Wow, what a place to play some hoops.
I am also impressed with the "BEAVER DOME" in the Class A Boys Basketball Forum.
