Fogle in Guymon

Former Oklahoma football standout Anthony Fogle is the new coach at Guymon.
Fogle, who played defensive back at OU from 1993-96, will take over a program that has not had a winning season since 1989, which is the last time the Tigers made the playoffs.
Fogle coached at Little Axe last year, going 1-9.
"It's a move up early in my career, from a 2A school to a 4A school," Fogle said. "They are starting to build things there. They gave me an offer and a chance to build something there."
And why Guymon, which is in the Panhandle?
"It's a town like any other. It's just not surrounded by much," Fogle said.

It will be a challenge. Guymon seems to be a tough place to get something going because of the participation problem. They haven't had much since the late 80's when they won a state title. He will be building from the ground up so if he can get them started at a young age(grade school) having fun with the game, it will help a bunch. Technic, continuity and experience are a must in todays football to keep up with your opponents. I wish him well and hope it works out. I'd like to see the largest town in the Panhandle make some noise in the larger classes of Oklahoma High School football.

I have a lot of old ties to Guymon. I practiced a lot of law there in the nineties. I always loved the people in Guymon. The Ant Man did a remote at Bob's Bar-B-Que at one time when he worked for the Ref Radio Network. He let me on the air for about twenty minutes, which was a lot of fun. He is a very engaging guy and he was a really good player on teams that were coached by bunglers like Blake and Schnellenberger.
I hope he does the people of Guymon proud. I know they will support him.

Hopefully things will turn out OK with the video, and I'll make sure I keep you posted on anything happening in the upcoming season. Next time I'll call in and make sure it's about 10 degrees hotter. Hey guys just thought I'd keep you updated on what's going on in the handle'.
We went to camp in Tulsa on the 12-14th of June. Some pretty good teams out there. Ft Smith (Ark) had some talent on the O and D Lines, and a really good QB and TE. Mustang will be Mustang. They had good overall talent, I heard that their QB wasn't there. Tulsa Metro will be good. There was another team from Akr, and one from Kansas. Overall, we competed well, which is the first thing you want to do out there. You get tons of reps. The best thing we did was get a little bit better each day. You don't want to go out there and try to scheme people, just do what you do and hope that someone steps up. We were without a few of our guys, but we did find some guys that going in we didn't think were 'there' yet. Hardest team to match up against was the team from Ft Smith. They had some athletes up front, ad blitzed a ton. We'll start up our Tiger pride this Wed, and hopefully just continue to get better. That is the update from the handle'. Signing off, and keep up the good work.

Hey, it's been a while, but just wanted to update you on the happenin's in the handle. We scrimmaged Turpin last Thrusday. Looked pretty good on defense, I think we had four picks. They really played hard, and some guys stepped up that we really didn't know a lot about. Offensively, we were up and down. Scored twice, however, the consistancy just wasn't there. You can expect that in a scrimmage, however, those are things we preach all the time, so that was a little frustrating to deal with. This was the first time I've seen Turpin, but the coaches say that they a a little down as far as the usual talent level. Their kids played hard. We are off this Friday to Tonkawa, for a 3 way with Alva. Pretty sure we'll get tested, and that what you want this early, just to see how your guys respond. That's it for now, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the updates coach. Alva, Guymon, and Tonkawa is a good mix for you. Tonkawa, is another class A team as you scrimmaged in Turpin (state champ last year that lost a bunch of seniors) as well as a good, up and coming Alva team in 3A. This will definetly give you the insight you need for player personel situations. If you don't mind posting, I'm interested in how things turn out.

After a 5 hour drive to Tonkowa, I'm pretty sure that we're ready to play a real game. Still up and down offensively, however we threw the ball a bit more in this scrimmage. Defensively, we were about the same as last week. I don't feel that we came out as intense. Alva will be good. Up front they are big, and can move as well. Tonkowa, will be a little bit down, but when you have that championship mentality, it is hard to loose. Overall, I think we played well. Their coaches said talked about how much we improved, and that thse big 4A schools need to find 4A scrimmages. (jokingly) We had a good time and got better. Worked on some things that we need to work on and now it's for real. Dalhart Wolves, coming to town. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks a ton, I guess people may wonder what I'm thinking. First, I was at Little Axe, different things going on, but same type of tradition. Yes, it does go both ways unfortunately. We had a better showing for one quarter against Woodward. 14 points in about 4 minutes and it's a 21-14 game and we have the ball with a chance to win with 2 minutes left. Hopefully our kids realized that they aren't the doormat of 4 A 1. We'll get after it this week against Hugoton, and hopefully get win 1. The good thing about it, is we ran 65 hundred yards of up downs for loafs, and points scored in the first game and all 50 players are still out there. It's amazing what kids will do when you know you and your coaches care. I can die a happy man knowing my kids play hard and represent to school, the town, and the team with class. But hey, enough preaching, lets get after those Eagles on the 15th, and everything else will take care of itself. Thanks for the support.
Also, I guaranteed a win on the coaches show Monday night, so hopefully, I don't have to eat crow.

Finally we got over the hump. Let me start out by saying that these guys I coach with work really hard. Hugoton was a little down but played hard. We have a lot more work to do without question, but it does feel good to get one in the win column. Looking forward to Piedmont this upcoming week. Hopefully this 50 mph wind will keep up.

I'm doing the best I can, in trying to keep the rest of the outside world updated on the life and times in the "Handle. Please don't take this last week as an indication that we have arrived. Piedmont is a heck of a team, and they came here without thier QB, and after having to travel to Ardmore the week bore and then to our place. We just got out on them early, executed a new play here or there and held on from a late rally in the 4th quarter. Our kids came out and played with passion, intensity and heart. I really can't take any credit for this one. Our coaches worked their rear ends off, and we just had some players that refused to loose. I just sat back and tried to manage the game as best as possible. This is a big win for us, but at the same time we have to forget about it and get ready for the Elk's this Friday. I hope this keeps you guys updated, you know we just got the telegraph out here last week, so we can stop using Morse Code. Thanks for all the great input and keep up the good work.

Not a problem, it's not like other than coach football I have a ton of things to do. Just kidding, the city of Guymon is a great place. However, I do have to throw something out there just for the record, as I'm finishing up my call sheet for tomorrow night. For one, I didn't see any players on the line from Piedmont that had played in the last two games, not playing in our game. Their best did play and did a fine job. Second, I understand that their starter at QB, didn't play because of a fight, however, that is something I can't control. These are things that my contacts down state are saying have come out of Elk. Let'sjust call it what it is, we played a pretty good 4A 1 team and pulled out a victory. Both sides played hard, and it was just our night. We aren't even thinking about that game now, and all of our efforts are on Elk. I have also heard about a 35 point victory that is supposed to happen out here as well. That is all fine and good. If they can score that many more power to them. I stopped playing a long time ago, so I'll let the sound of our players helmets do the talking. The great thing about Friday nights, is that after Sat. there's only there's only 5 more days to play again. Forget about an upset on either side. This deal just got personal.

I have to take my hat off to the coaches and kids out at Elk City. They did a good job, and their kids played tough. Pretty classic battle that went down to the 4th quarter, and they pulled away at the end. Both teams had chances and I really felt like we were both feeling each other out and no one pulled the trigger. Our 5 or 6 turnovers didn't help too much either, but both sides had chances early to do damage. This thing will get interesting before it's all said and done, and those are definately the games that are fun to be a part of as a coach. Now it's off to Anadarko, and see if we can stay alive in this playoff race. And I apologize for getting a little fired up last week, it's just the Sooner in me.

Here is the No Man's Land Blog.
Had a good win this Friday against Anadrako. Kids played hard after a slow start. The kids from Anadarko played well. We really couldn't move the ball on the ground, and they came out with a good attack against our run plays. We did have some success throwing the ball. First game with more yards passing than rushing. Defense played well, and had two scores. Weatherford is next, and from what I have seen they are a solid team. Don't start the playoff talk again around here, I think that put the whole town into shock. We just need to take this thing one at a time and see what happens when it's all said and done. Good competition in this district, and who knows what will happen in the end. I think there are 4 teams right now at 2-1, and one at 3-0. Only 4 spots going to the dance from what the rules say. Great job guys and keep up the good work

Captains log,
Wow, great game by Weatherford. They jumped out on us early, and we realy didn't respond well. The way I see it, we just have to understand the game just a little bit better. We are in a position where our kids are seeing things that they haven't seen before in their football lives. Teams are coming into Guymon with the idea that they have to win to have a spot in the playoffs, and also, feeling that there is going to be a good game. It's a learning process, and we'll get there. I believe in these guys and we'll just have to see how this thing plays out. With Piedmont losing again, this district is upside down. We still control our destiny, by taking care of business this week, but nothing is for granted as you know in 4 A1.

We got by Douglass, a team that is young and getting more confident with each game. They played hard, and we did somethings that we haven't shown yet that may have suprised them a little bit. More power game. Now we have a realy good McGuinness team coming in this week, and finish out with Northeast. It'll be interesting to see how this thing shakes out. I think that if we handle our business, we could actualy have a shot at this playoff picture. First time in 18 years. Once again these coaches I have up here work their rear ends off, getting these guys ready each week, and hopefully we can put together a complete game and see what happens from there. Thanks for keeping up with us, and best of luck in the future.

Not much to say about this one. There was a pretty good panhandle whippin going on last night. I really don't have much to say about this one, just got outplayed. Nothing fancy on this one fellas. they do a great job with their kids, and a big part of turning things around is getting the mentality right. Belief, is the word of the day. On paper, there are probably 8 or 9 teams in this class that aren't there because of belief. THat's the major part of a turnaround. However, we still control our destiny, win this week and were in and it looks like a trip to Glenpool. Last time I was there, they beat us 48-41 enroute to a state championship. That's all for now, we just gotta get better.

Looks like the impossible is possible. First off, Norhteast played a heck of a game. It was sloppy at times, but you couldn't ask for more when you get 2 teams that haven't been there in a while playing for 1 spot. Second, I'd like to thank the people of the City of Weatherford for pulling off a great win. I was on pins and needles on that one. Last but not least, I'd like to thank all you guys for keeping up with the Tigers this year. Those coaches and players worked hard for something that they believed in. I was just along for the ride, and tried to keep the ship steady. We enjoyed the win, but now it's time to get ready for Glenpool. They are soild, well coached and play hard. We'll have our hands full with them. Good thing is, everyone is 0-0, with only one team winning 4 games. I have been fortunate to be in the playoffs all but one year that I've coached, but this one will be special. Thanks again.

Great going Coach! I've been gone for the weekend but heard of your victory over the radio and was real happy for our neighbors out west. Just for the record, I picked the Tigers in our local newspapers ten game "pick em" contest.

I'd just like to be around in the next few weeks to give it another shot. We grew a lot as a team this past few weeks, and hopefully that will transfer over into the next game. Glenpool does a lot of things well, and they are used to being in this spot. I don't really know how we stack up against them, I'm sure nobody will pick us, but we've been in some battles and have seen a lot of pretty darn good teams. I think it'll be a good one. Great ride in my first year. We have a lot coming back and I expect to see these Tigers do well in the future. Glenpool is a solid team that does things well. Well it is official, season one of the Anthony Fogle era is finished and in the books. It was certainly a roller coaster ride and let me tell you, we can not wait to get back on next season.
I know that for most people life does not revolve around football, and in the Fogle household we would like to say it doesn't, but truth be known, it does.
We live for Fridays; not because it is the end of the work week, but because it is the night the gridiron comes to life! Football happens on Friday nights and our family lives to see the passes, punts, and hits that happen in high school football.
Now, basketball is alive and kicking and the Fogle children are avid "hoopsters" also, but as much as we love to be on the court, we do not sit home on the weekend after a game and go over plays.
My daughter asking, "Gosh Dad, why didn't you pass more?" While the dry erase board in the backroom is marked up and erased several times over, and we all sit in wonder as the master of the playbook recites each play over and over again like a great poet recites a verse.
Yes, our weekends will be quite different for a while.
As I have had a couple of days to reflect on the past season; I realized that I needed to say aloud what I have felt in my heart for quite some time now. The people in Guymon are a really great group of folks. I have had such a nice time getting to know people from all walks of life. From the young people that take my groceries to the car to the people who live next door I see smiles across faces everyday.
My family has gotten everything from muffins and cakes for encouragement to chicken noodles when we were sick. YUM!
The town has not only gotten behind my husband and the football team, but also got excited when the Junior High English classes put out their very first newspaper. (Be looking for the second edition coming out soon!)
And I have to say I love living in a town with a Main Street! We have had so much fun hanging out in front of the Kitchen Mart for the various events and happenings.
I will miss watching practice with the five o'clock crew and screaming "NOW" until my voice is gone. I will miss those seniors who will move on to the next level and those parents who were so dedicated to their sons and the sport that they loved to play.
Now to the hard part, Anthony Fogle, you were right, I do love Guymon and I am glad that you moved me all the way out to a place called "no man's land!"
Thank you to all of you who have gone out of your way to make my family and me feel welcome.
You can believe that in the Fogle house our hearts are 100 percent Tiger!
