The Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce would like to announce that the 8th Annual Pawhuska Trout Derby is slated for Saturday, February 18th at Pawhuska Lake and will run from 8 AM to 4 PM. There will be cash prizes given to those anglers who catch the five heaviest fish and for the top five heaviest stringers.
During the 2005 derby the heaviest fish tipped the scales at three pounds, 12.5 ounces. The total payout for last year's tourney was $1,800.
Anglers will have other opportunities to cash in if they can reel in one of dozens of fish that have been tagged. The prizes for catching such a fish are valued at $50 and up.
Each year Lake Pawhuska is stocked with over 30,000 rainbow trout during trout season which runs from the first of November through the end of March.
The entry fee into the Pawhuska Trout Derby is $20 per angler if you pre-register with the Chamber of Commerce. The entry fee jumps up to $30 per angler on the day of the derby if space is available.
Anglers are required to have a valid Oklahoma fishing license and a trout license as well. Anglers are also encouraged and expected to follow all state and derby rules, which are available on the web at www.wildlifedepartment.com and at www.pawhuskachamber.com respectively.
There will be on-site concessions during the event and for anglers who wish to participate and need a place to stay accommodations are available in Pawhuska.
In addition to great fishing there is also antique shopping, good eating and interesting museums at your disposal in the capital of the Osage Nation.
Entry forms for the fishing derby as well as more information are available at the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce.
