Area I:

Washington was dominant. There was no point when they had a game in doubt after the first quarter. Hennessey was not a close game, with our end of the bench playing all the 4th. Empire game was close and ugly after 1Q, but the Lady Warriors kicked it into gear and pulled away. Credit Empire for coming out and hitting the girls (both literally and figuratively) with their best shot. One of the biggest surprises of the 2A girls side came out of this area with Hennessey (10-15) advancing as the Consolation B winner. They scored a season high 82 points while beating #20 Ringling to win. I'm not feeling real confident about my prediction of Cordell coming through with Empire and Walters still very much alive. They will have to battle extremely hard to give me a chance of 8 for 8.

Area II:

This area went about according to plan. Wewoka girls gave Ampo all they wanted, but Ampo still comes up with the W. Coalgate breezed through theirs to set up what should be a great game for the Area finals. My upset pick of Colbert over Konawa didn't materialize. It doesn't matter though with this being pretty much a two horse race. The Lady Tigers of Wewoka could have a say in it if they make it past Konawa and get to "do or die" game against the loser of Ampo - Coalgate.

Area III:

I got this one all wrong. Pawnee loses early to a fairly hot OBA team, but battles through the loser's bracket to get to area. Preston beat Warner much worse than I thought they would. Pretty impressive win. Anxious to see Dale play Preston. Dale has a way of slowing athletic teams down and Preston would be the biggest challenge for that. I say Preston by 20, but wouldn't be surprise to see a low scoring, close game. The losers bracket games in this area will be as tough as any around. All of those teams are fairly even matched. I still look for Pawnee to play Dale for the second State bid from this area.

Area IV:

Okla. Union was my surprise team out of this area. They lost the regional opener, but made it to area out of the Consolation D. Oktaha cruise through what was simply the easiest regional in the state. My shock of the 2A tournament so far is seeing Porum out. When Washington played them last year in the State tourney, I marked them down to make it back. They were a young and scrappy team that knew how to battle. Seeing them lose to Hulbert and Afton really surprise me. Pocola dominated the top part of the bracket through two tough games: #11 Afton and #8 Hulbert. Good tests to have heading towards State. I think they are looking to make up for past dissapointments. I went out on a limb and picked Oktaha to beat Pocola... should be interesting. Pocola seems to be playing with purpose, while Oktaha should be playing with alot of big game experience.

All 8 of my picks are still alive, but I wouldn't be very surprised to only get 6 of 8 in. Sounds like there was some good ball being played this last weekend. Also sounds like there are some big matchups this weekend. Should be fun!

Just FYI:

We don't have Coaches rankings, but here are final DO and TW (giving unranked teams a value of 21):

Cordell - 21 + 11 = 32/2 = 16 (losers bracket)
Hennessey - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Mangum - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Empire - 15 + 13 = 28/2 = 14 (losers bracket)
Walters - 8 + 10 = 18/2 = 9 (winners bracket)
Washington - 7 + 4 = 11/2 = 5.5 (winners bracket)

Wewoka - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Konawa - 14 + 18 = 32/2 = 16 (losers bracket)
Wynnewood - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Savana - 16 + 7 = 23/2 = 11.5 (losers bracket)
Ampo - 4 + 6 = 10/2 = 5 (winners bracket)
Coalgate - 3 + 3 = 6/2 = 3 (winners bracket)

OBA - 12 + 19 = 31/2 = 15.5 (losers bracket)
Gore - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Pawnee - 9 + 9 = 18/2 = 9 (losers bracket)
Warner - 10 + 16 = 26/2 = 13 (losers bracket)
Dale - 6 + 8 = 14/2 = 7 (winners bracket)
Preston - 1 + 1 = 2/2 = 1 (winners bracket)

Hulbert - 11 + 12 = 23/2 = 11.5 (losers bracket)
Okla. Union - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Afton - 13 + 14 = 27/2 = 13.5 (losers bracket)
Quapaw - 21 + 21 = 42/2 = 21 (losers bracket)
Pocola - 2 + 2 = 4/2 = 2 (winners bracket)
